02/01/22 Heap, big winter storm headed our way - they say 6"-10" of ice and snow - we sure need the moisture - yippie!

02/02/22 3pm - no snow yet....Here are my lovely bride's four newest pastels that are now for sale at the Buffalo River Art gallery in Gilbert (all four are 8x10 plus the frame):

 

 

02/03/22 Everything was white at first light today with blowing snow - YIPPIE COYOTE!!! The temp was about 11 and gusts of wind came through that sent the wind chill down below zero - now we’re talking! Normally with the temps that cool I opt for my heavy snowmobile suit - but that thing is SO warm that it doesn’t take long for me to get heated up and sweat soaked - and by the time I reach the office I’m ready to peel it all off and work in my skivvies. (not a pretty sight)

So today I opted for just my normal dress with an added layer of a wind jacket to cut the chill, that worked perfectly! The pups and I broke trail on about three inches of packed powder - it’s supposed to continue snowing all day, though the flakes are kinda small, but I bet we get a good amount by this afternoon.

When I major change of weather like this blows in the wild critters will normally hunker down for a while but today I think Pam’s drive-thru bird stations had long lines. And there were also tracks in the snow many places - squirrels and rabbits most likely, which of course kept the pups busy. It felt GREAT being out in the winter woods!

For some reason I’ve landed in front of the “Journal computer” in a sitting position that isn’t killing my spine, and so I’m able to type here a bit for the first time in a while. Perhaps it’s because I accidently opened iTunes while trying to close about a dozen windows that had been open on the big computer screen to make way for the text file I’m writing in. Old friend Effron White began singing Biscuits & Gravy (from his first CD - Day In The Sun) - a longtime family favorite that he played at our wedding on the back deck at Cloudland. I have a zillion favorite songs from the universe, but probably only a top-twenty albums of all time - this is one of them for sure!

An hour later now and it’s snowing hard, with much larger flakes - maybe we’ll get the predicted almost-foot of snow after all - then I’ll strap on the snowshoes and make some bigger tracks. Hope you are getting some snow today too!

02/04/22 More snow overnight for a total of about 8" - the pups love the snow, and our cabin look pretty nice with it!

02/06/22 Icy trail today, crunch, crunch, crunch hiking everywhere else through the open woods...

0/07/22 A beautiful sunrise across Pam's Park -

02/08/22 Wilson doesn't seem to want to get off the couch but we eventually got out for an icy scramble along the trail through the boulder jumble on our way to work.

02/11/22 We had a wonderful campfire hot dog dinner in our yard this evening with our RV friends Ray and Susan!

02/13/22 A verry nice color and clouds show at dawn today...

02/14/22 A couuple of nice cycles along the bluff hike to work today...

02/15/22 The heirloom daffodils are starting to bloom at our historic homesite...

02/17/22 Big storms rolled through during the night bringing an inch or more of much-needed rainfall, and some nice clouds at dawn... Polar vortex headed our way with a 50-degree drop in temp by tomorrow morning...

02/20/21 First rays on golden sunshine on one of the big pine trees standing guard at our cabin this morning

02/21/22 These heirloom daffodils were all frozen blobs, solid ice, a few days ago - this mrning blooming in all their glory!

02/23/22 1pm - 1"-1.5" of ice pellets have fallen already, but so far nothing is sticking in the trees - YEA! (a scoop of the pellets shown above in my gloved hand - they are smaller than BBs)

02/26/22 this is the type of wheel I needed to hike to/from work today - our trail was mosty SOLID ice!
