BUFFALO RIVER HANDBOOK This book by Ken Smith is packed with the history, geology, and folk tales of the Buffalo River area. While you probably won't want to take it along in your pack or canoe (it is thick and heavy, and doesn't contain any maps), you will find hours of enjoyable reading at home within its pages - few people alive know more about the history of the Buffalo River area than Ken Smith - he is, in fact, a part of the history himself! Lots of great historical color and black and white photos are included as well.
If you do intend to use this book to plan out your hikes or canoe trips, you will certainly need the recommended Trails Illustrated maps that go along with it (both East Half and West Half maps are available below). OR if you are going to be hiking the trails in the area, your best resource remains the BUFFALO RIVER HIKING TRAILS guidebook (with individual maps of all trails), which is available here.
